Yeah, Art!’s Releases 2nd Mixtape Produced Entirely by Middle Schoolers

We’re thrilled to share the release of Yeah, Art!’s second student-produced mixtape, a powerful collection of original beats and songs created entirely by middle school students in our music production programs.

This project represents what happens when young people are given access to professional tools, mentorship from working artists, and the freedom to explore their own creative voice. From beat-making to arranging and sound design, every track on the mixtape was built from scratch by our students.

“Yeah, Art! has made my son a beat magician.

“My 8th-grade son Alden is a student in Yeah, Art!’s afterschool program at Melrose Leadership Academy, and he’s fallen in love with producing beats through their classes. Creating music from scratch has become his favorite thing to do in the evenings and on weekends. I’ve been blown away by what he’s learned and the confidence and pride he’s gained along the way. Thank you for inspiring him and helping him discover a passion he can carry forward.”— Curt Douglas, Parent

New voices, returning mentors

This year, we were excited to welcome Prentice Powell and Darian Gray as new teaching artists, bringing fresh perspectives and creative energy into the classroom.

We were also honored to have returning instructors Dame Drummer and Karina Flonnoy, one of Oakland’s only female studio owners, continue to guide students through the art and discipline of music production. Together, this team helped students build real-world skills while encouraging experimentation, collaboration, and confidence.

Darian Gray is a music producer and educator focused on the core building blocks of modern production. He helps students understand how beats, and song structure work together to create complete tracks. His teaching style supports exploration while reinforcing strong technical foundations.

Listen and support

The mixtape is now available to stream on SoundCloud. We’re asking listeners to consider a suggested $25 donation when tuning in to help Yeah, Art! reach our $10,000 end-of-year fundraising goal. Every contribution supports teaching artists, equipment, and free or low-cost access to creative technology for students who deserve it most. And while you’re at it, go ahead and stream Volume I, too.
