Yeah, Art! Students Get the GRAMMY Treatment for Music in Our Schools Month
Now THIS is how you wrap up Music in Our Schools Month.
Yeah, Art! teamed up with members of the Recording Academy's San Francisco Chapter to celebrate Mr. Randy Porter, a beloved Oakland music teacher with over 40 years of experience — and the very first teacher to welcome Yeah, Art! into his classroom.
Recording Academy members Reto Peter, Kev Choice, YS Baby and more showed up to give Mr. Porter's students a professional recording experience. We're talking 24 microphones, multi-track recording and a surprise visit from the legendary Sun Ra Arkestra!
The session even caught the attention of the GRAMMYs, who shared the story with their 4.7 million Instagram followers. A pretty incredible spotlight on a teacher who's dedicated four decades to music education in Oakland.
Across Music in Our Schools Month, more than 40 Recording Academy members visited Bay Area classrooms through Yeah, Art!, Elevate Oakland and Bay Area Music Project.
Huge thanks to everyone who helped make this happen. And especially to Mr. Porter, for showing us what's possible when you give young people the opportunity to make music.
