Yeah, Art! students animate their own stories in 3D

What starts as a scribble in a sketchbook becomes a world you can walk through.

We just wrapped our first full-length pilot of It Was All A Dream — a 15-week animation workshop where elementary school students write, storyboard, narrate, and animate their own stories using 3D augmented reality. That’s right: their drawings literally jumped off the page.

This cutting-edge program took place at Montclair Elementary School, and brought together technology, storytelling, and student voice in a brand-new way. Using tools like Canva and MyWebAR, students scanned their hand-drawn dreamscapes and watched them come to life in interactive 3D. Then, they used their own voices to narrate the stories behind their characters, their conflicts, and their creations.

This workshop is an evolution of the AR art experience we brought to Art Basel Miami two years in a row — but this time, it was 100% led by kids.

We’re proud to offer programs like this that not only build creative skills but boost confidence, collaboration, and tech fluency. For many of our students, this was their first time working with animation, and they absolutely soared.

Stay tuned — we’ve got big dreams for where this program goes next.
